Project Description
Introduction
Are you looking for an immersive and impactful way to volunteer? Our Permaculture Volunteer Abroad program is designed for those passionate about sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and regenerative farming. You’ll work on permaculture farms in Nepal, helping local farmers implement eco-friendly farming techniques while learning about agroecology and permaculture design principles.
Background
With over 65% of Nepal’s population dependent on agriculture, climate change and unsustainable practices have led to soil degradation, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss. This project addresses these issues by promoting organic farming, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable food systems.
Key Objectives
- Support local farmers in transitioning to permaculture and regenerative agriculture.
- Create model eco-farms that inspire and educate local communities.
- Teach agroecology principles to empower sustainable food production.
- Restore degraded farmland by planting native trees and climate-resilient crops.
Why Volunteer for Permaculture Volunteer Abroad Project?
The Need
🌍 Agriculture is the backbone of Nepal, but climate change threatens rural livelihoods. Droughts, soil erosion, and chemical dependency have resulted in lower yields and food insecurity.
🌿 Regenerative farming techniques can reverse environmental damage while increasing food production. However, many farmers lack the resources and knowledge to implement these methods.
Global Relevance
This project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
SDG 2: Zero Hunger – Promote sustainable food production
SDG 13: Climate Action – Support eco-friendly farming
SDG 15: Life on Land – Restore ecosystems through regenerative agriculture
